Angela Au Barbera, MD is a board-certified specialist in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous at Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Barbera completed her undergraduate and medical degrees through the six-year accelerated BS/MD program between Penn State University and Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Barbera then completed her internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and her ophthalmology residency at Temple University Hospital. In her final year of residency, she had the honor of serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Barbera subsequently completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at Albany Medical Center/Retina Consultants. She is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Prior to joining Eye Consultants, Dr. Barbera worked in both private practice and academic hospital settings. Dr. Barbera previously served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Albany Medical Center and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. She also previously held the leadership positions of Assistant Program Director and Program Director of the ophthalmology residency program at Temple University Hospital.
Dr. Barbera has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Barbera’s research includes work in diabetic retinopathy, retinal tumors and telemedicine.
Dr. Barbera performs vitreo-retinal surgery at Pennsylvania Eye and Ear Surgery Center and Reading Hospital Tower Health.
