Angela Au Barbera, MD is a board-certified specialist in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous at Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania.   

Dr. Barbera completed her undergraduate and medical degrees through the six-year accelerated BS/MD program between Penn State University and Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Barbera then completed her internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and her ophthalmology residency at Temple University Hospital. In her final year of residency, she had the honor of serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Barbera subsequently completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at Albany Medical Center/Retina Consultants. She is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Prior to joining Eye Consultants, Dr. Barbera worked in both private practice and academic hospital settings. Dr. Barbera previously served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Albany Medical Center and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. She also previously held the leadership positions of Assistant Program Director and Program Director of the ophthalmology residency program at Temple University Hospital. 

Dr. Barbera has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Barbera’s research includes work in diabetic retinopathy, retinal tumors and telemedicine.

Dr. Barbera performs vitreo-retinal surgery at Pennsylvania Eye and Ear Surgery Center and Reading Hospital Tower Health.

Dr. Barbera is an active member in the following organizations:

Marion J. Haligowski III, OD began employment in July 2018 with Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania, with the acquisition of Lebanon Ophthalmic Associates. Dr Haligowski has practiced from the Lebanon location since August 2012.

Dr. Haligowski is licensed to the highest level in Pennsylvania and is experienced in the management of anterior segment disease, glaucoma, cataract co-management, diabetic eye disease and comprehensive eye care.

Dr. Haligowski received his Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA in 1996. He received his Degree in Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Philadelphia, PA. He accomplished his clinical externships from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at the Lebanon Veterans Administration, the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center and Luke Air Force Base Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Haligowski has served numerous Medical Missionary services in Guatemala and Mexico.

Dr. Christina Lippe, a native of Hershey, Pennsylvania, joined Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania in January 2019 after completing her Advanced Studies in Oculoplastics and Neuro Ophthalmology at Dean McGee Eye Institute of the University of Oklahoma where she also completed her residency in June 2018. She fulfilled her Internship in Medicine June 2015 at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Lippe received her Doctorate in Medicine May 2014 from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She achieved her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Degree from Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Lippe is a Clinical Assistant Professor and the Ophthalmology Pathway Director for Drexel University College of Medicine. In her role, she helps rising medical students apply to residency programs to become future ophthalmologists, who will provide eye care to patients across the country. She is also in charge of the medical student rotations at Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania which allows medical students interested in all areas of medicine to learn about the eye to further treat patients in their subspecialities of interest in their future careers.

Dr. Lippe is on staff at Pennsylvania Eye and Ear Surgery Center, Reading Hospital-Tower Health, Physicians Care Surgical Hospital, Physicians Care Surgery Center and Physicians Surgical Center of Lebanon.

Kevin J. Shah, MD, a native of New York City, joined Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania in 2016 after serving as faculty at the Cole Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Shah, a Board-Certified cornea and cataract surgeon, brings a variety of modern surgical techniques to the Cornea Service at Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania, specifically: suture-less cataract surgery, Astigmatic and Presbyopic correction during cataract surgery, Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK), Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), Conjunctival Limbal Autograft (CLAU), Penetrating Keratoplasty (PK), Implantation of the Boston Type 1 Keratoprosthesis (KPro).

After obtaining his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, Dr. Shah earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and completed his ophthalmology residency at Manhattan Eye and Ear Throat Hospital (MEETH) / New York University. He then completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the Cincinnati Eye Institute/University of Cincinnati under the mentorship of Edward J. Holland, MD, an internationally recognized leader in cornea transplantation and ocular surface reconstruction.

During his fellowship, Dr. Shah specialized in astigmatic and presbyopic correction during cataract surgery, ocular surface reconstruction, limbal stem cell transplantation and partial corneal transplantation procedures. As faculty at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Shah helped train residents and fellows in advanced corneal disease and mentored them in the operating room during cataract surgeries and corneal transplantations.

Dr. Shah is well published in peer-reviewed journals and has a specific interest in treating Fuchs Dystrophy and Keratoconus. He has authored several book chapters, specifically focusing on the surgical techniques for DMEK, Herpes Simplex Keratitis, and Corneal transplantation in patients with ocular surface disease. He also served on the accreditation board for the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), the accrediting body for donor eye banks in the United States from 2013 to 2020. He is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Ophthalmology 360®.

Dr. Shah is an attending surgeon at the Pennsylvania Eye and Ear Surgery Center, Reading Hospital – Tower Health, Physicians Care Surgical Hospital, Physicians Care Surgery Center, and Physicians Surgical Center of Lebanon.

Michael Smith, MD is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of Glaucoma and Cataracts. He joined Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania in July 2020.  Previously, he served as the Ophthalmology Residency Program Director at the National Capital Consortium (Walter Reed Army Hospital) and was also appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Service University in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Smith completed his military career as a Glaucoma Specialist at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.

Dr. Smith received his Glaucoma fellowship training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida in 2015 following the completion of his Ophthalmology Residency at the National Capital Consortium (Walter Reed) in Bethesda, Maryland in 2013. He was the Chief Ophthalmology Resident in his final year. He completed his Transitional Internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC in 2010 and received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 2009.
